SAN Francisco: So far this year, some 859 companies have raised an initial round totaling $3.9 billion, according to data from the National Venture Capital Association and ThomsonReuters. That compares with 777 companies raising $3.5 billion this time last year and 523 companies raising $2.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009. But Start-Ups doesn't have enough funding to carry the businesses successfully and may need some innovative ways to raise money.
