Aspirin , known since long , as "a heart hero" is bringing concern to scientists as a source for stomach problems.Research on the web depicts that aspirin should be avoided by Ulcer patients(active) and by those on anticoagulants(blood thinners). For others too, It should be taken with food to reduce risks of stomach irritation.
However for heart patients scientists advise differently. "There is evidence now that the risks of aspirin - particularly gastrointestinal bleeding- outweigh the benefits in patients without any evidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD)......But patients with a known history of CVD -including those with narrowings in heart arteries , history of strokes or evidence of blockages in leg arteries - should continue taking aspirin" says Dr James Saw, a cardiologist at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and a senior researcher at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute.
