Corporal Punishment in School: YES or NO

A large number of teachers and their unions gathered across Pakistan protesting that "Corporal Punishment" should be allowed in schools. They while emphasizing on an old saying "spare the rod and spoil the child", say that children should face some punishment in order to maintain discipline and and end to corporal punishment ties their hands in controlling the students. Punjab Government banned physical punishment way back in 2005, yet a number of cases of physical violence and brutal torture have been reported in the backward areas.
But teachers forget the fact that "Corporal Punishment" will also teach children that violence is the only solution to problems. It also teaches children that it is okay to use physical violence to control other people and situations. Physical punishment teaches kids that it is okay to hit the people you love. It teaches them nothing that will be useful or helpful in their adult lives or that will help them to communicate with other people.
