Kinetic energy absorbers for road safety

Kinetic energy absorbers could be a revolutionary solution to road car safety. These absorbers can convert the linear kinetic energy produced by car crash into rotary energy to be used up in a fly wheel.
The system known as EPAR (Polish acronym for the energy accumulating-dispersing converter) is a polish invention that prevents physical objects against the damage caused by the collisions. It is thought to apply a simple method of transmitting the collision energy to mechanic accumulators instead of allowing it to destroy the object.
Highway crash barriers with EPAR fitted can absorb the energy from a collision at 110 km/h according to the company - who say they are in talks to implement their system on Sweden's road network and with Kuwait to protect their ports and docks.
