Be Careful with Your Vitamin D levels! Too high will Harm Your Heart!

A report presented to the American Heart Association expresses concern over high nurient level especially Vitamin D. Testing a sample of 132,000 patients, it reveals that too high levels of Vitamin D can significantly caise "atrial fibrillation", a common cause of irregular heart beat.

High levels of vitamin D only occur when people take supplements, said study’s lead author, Dr. Jared Bunch, director of electrophysiology research at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.

“People are looking toward therapies considered to be natural to treat a broad variety of disease states and as a means of prevention,” Bunch said. “We see patients who take a tremendous amount of vitamin supplements.”

National Institute of Health recommends a daily vitamin intake 600 International Units for all people aged 1 to 70 years. A comprehensive list of foods containing Vitamin D has been provided by Department of Agriculture, which may help people monitor their levels to some extent. Brunch advises to visit a doctor for regular blood level checkups as well. The positive side is that he also hopes any harmful affects to be reversible. “If the levels are excessive, I would hope that when they’re cut back the arrhythmias would improve as well,” he says.
