Pensive : "I know I'm gonna flunk it!"

By Sarah Mahmood

A few days ago, a friend of mine actually became pretty serious and rude when I asked her about a question we had attempted in the exam. Why? Because it reminded her of the exam and she couldn't bear to think about it (and because the question was probably worth 2 marks!). Not that she was going to fail. Not at all. It was just an attitude -- an attitude of pessimism, of extremism and of wrong priorities.

We all have friends who are completely crazy about grades, and they are usually those who top just any exam. They can actually go to extremes of selfishness and dishonesty to secure the best grades. A milder group would be one which is extremely finicky and conscious, as the above scenario suggests. Many of us ourselves could be those fitting the descriptions. But what's wrong with being that finicky? It is, after all a matter of grades.

Well EVERYTHING is wrong with being that finicky!

True, you need to consider good grades as a top priority, but not the ONLY priority. Exams are NOT the end of the world! They require your hard work and positive outlook. But after that leave the rest on God (for those who don't believe, read fate). Even if you end up getting bad grades, be satisfied that you did your best (if you didn't, then look for improvements), because that's the best you can do.
