US tests Advanced Hypersonic Weapon

Pentagon has test-fired a new weapon that can travel at a speed five times that of sound. The aim of this Advanced Hypersonic Weapon is to use conventional munition to strike targets anywhere in the world within an hour.

The objective of the test according to the Pentagon statement "is to collect data on hypersonic boost-glide technologies and test range performance for long-range atmospheric flight". The missile, launched from Hawaii using a three-stage booster system, hit its target on a Pacific atoll.
