Wayne Rooney described his challenge, against Montenegro's defender Dzudovic in last month's qualifying, as "stupid" of him. He says he is devastated by his ban.
"Obviously, it's devastating for me but it's something that's my own fault, so I can't really complain."
"It was stupid by me - I regretted it as soon as I did it. It's no excuse, but I still feel the punishment is a bit harsh. I'm disappointed with it," he said.
A three match ban was imposed on him. The FA have until 5pm today to formally appeal against the ban. The victim of Rooney's challenge has written to Uefa to support the striker.
The 26 year old said: "Even if it's reduced by one game, it will be a bonus for me."
England's manager Fabio Capello told that the striker will go to Euro 2012 even if his three-match suspension stands.
