World Pneumonia Day

World Pneumonia Day was observed throughout the world on Saturday, November 12th, to raise awareness of the disease as a public health issue and to help prevent millions of avoidable children deaths each year.

A lot of people in Pakistan are now suffering from the disease ,poverty, being described as the main reason. Prime Minister Gillani in his speech ,on Nov 12th , has announced that a new vaccine is being introduced that shall prove to be highly effective and help eradicate the disease to a large extent.

“Most children [suffering from pneumonia] come from slum areas and have contracted the disease either by sleeping very close to people already suffering from pneumonia or through exposure to cold because they slept on a cold floor or walked barefoot on it,” says Dr Qaiser Shehzad Humayun, senior child specialist at Rawalpindi’s Holy Family Hospital.
