This book - The Zahir - is a spiritual understanding of unnamed author's love for his wife named Esther. Esther, a war correspondent, disappears one morning. When she disappears, author is tormented and she becomes his obsession.

Narrator himself is a famous celebrity and a writer.
Story is about narrator's struggle to understand and overcome the feelings of mystery of Esther's absence. She is the one who filled his life with meaning but he never valued and understood her enough till she was around.
