Champions League: Manchester United knocked out as Basel, Lyon, Moskva and Napoli qualify to the last 16

Basel beat Manchester United 2-1 to finish 2nd  at their expense

Last season's runners-up Manchester United failed to reach the round of 16 as Basel beat Manchester United 2-1 and secured their place in the last 16 for the 2nd time in history.
Just 9 minutes into the match, Marco Streller fired a left-footed shot into the net after David de Gea deflected Shaqiri's cross into the path of Streller.
After Alex Frei's  free-kick went to Shaqiri he crossed back from the corner where Frei scored from the short range on 85 minutes.
Phil Jone's late header, after Federico Macheda's shot came back off the post, gave United some hope but could not equalise.
Benfica beat Otelul Galati 1-0 to remain at the top of Group C, ahead of Basel.
Lyon beat GNK Dinamo 7-1 at Zagreb to qualify for the next round from Group D. The French side also needed AFC Ajax to lose at home to Real Madrid CF and overturn a seven-goal differential. Ajax 3-0 home defeat confirmed that.
Jose Callejon scored the opening goal on 14 minutes and in a similar way Higuan scored four minutes before the break. Just a minute before the final whistle Alonso chipped to Callejon who beat the keeper and rolled into the empty net.
17-year-old Mateo Kovačić scored the opening for Zagreb and just before the break Gomis equalised and Lyon's goal rampage started in the 2nd half.
Gomis struck three more goals while Jimmy Briand, Maxime Gonalons and Lisandro all contributed to the 7-1 victory.
CSKA Moskva pulled off another unlikely result as they won 2-1 at Group B winners FC Internazionale Milano, Vasili Berezutski's 86th-minute decider lifting them from fourth to second as after LOSC Lille Métropole and Trabzonspor AŞ finished goalless.
Manchester City's 2-0 victory over Group A winners Bayren Munich could not confirm their place in the knock-out stage as Napoli beat Villarreal 3-0 to confirm their place ahead of City and qualify to the next round.
