Dalit Boy Killed For Sharing Name With High-Caste Man

A low-caste Indian boy has been killed for using the name of a high-caste man.

According to the police, the victim and his brother were namesakes of the sons of a certain Jawahar Chaudhary who belonged to a higher caste. The former's father was asked to change his sons' name. However, on November 24 the body of one of his sons, Neeraj was found strangled in a field prompting the arrest of two friends of the Chaudhary family.

Neeraj belonged to the Dalit caste, formerly known as the 'untouchables'.
