German janitors seem to play interesting role in German arts history. Around first week of November this year a news startled everybody when a cleaner working in a museum in Dortmund, Germany, destroyed a valuable piece of art worth million dollars.
Recently a janitor lady Tanja Hols in the Bavarian city of Passau out of her curiosity has discovered a treasure trove of ancient silver coins and medals that went overlooked for more than two centuries.
Coins are estimated to be worth millions. The 43-year-old janitor was handed this box for dusting & cleaning purpose quite often. But on a lucky day she decided to peep inside so opened the box’s top and, to her astonishment, discovered a veritable treasure trove of valuable old coins.
Being an honest employee she informed the boss. After investigation it was found that coins belonged to local prince-bishops who hid the treasure in the library in the early 19th century to avoid paying taxes.
