A friend gets better grades...there are those who'd be burnt to the core. A colleague gets a shining new car, and "BAAAAM", the insides start writhing.

This illogical feeling of what is normally called 'jealousy' is indeed despicable. The constant nudges of 'why him', 'why not me', 'she doesn't deserve that', never really let the victim rest.
The problem lies not in the occasional twinges of envy one feels, but in the inability to recognize it for what it really is: a personality failing.
Bearing in mind that everyone gets their own share of life's blessings, the next step would be trying to practise gratefulness towards God. Hope that helps!
