Phobos-Grunt to fall back in January

The unsuccessful Russian Mars probe Phobos Grunt, will fall back to earth next month, says Russian space agency Roscomos.

The mission has been stranded in the orbit since November, with the agencies making many unsuccessful attempts of trying to establish communication with it.

20-30 fragments of the probe will survive to the surface of the earth, with the timing of the fall estimated between 6 and 19 January. This is expected to narrow however as the event approaches near.

The mission was launched to land on the bigger of Mars' moons, Phobos and bring back rock.
