While other European countries have agreed to provide 150bn euros to the International Monetary Fund, Britain decides to boycott the scheme.
Britain's refusal to join in means EU finance ministers fail to gather their target sum of 200bn euros. Countries like Germany, Spain and Italy have offered their support for the plan which intends to help struggling eurozone economies.
The British government wants the the resources to be increased "as part of a global agreement", the office of UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said.
