Got a B. Moan. What if there had been a C instead?
Lost another basketball match. Moan. What about the new things you got to learn?
Got a rebuke. Moan. What about the failings in you that you really ought to work on?
Loads of work. Moan. What about the hundreds of new skills (time management, workload planning etc.) that you become adept at?
Lots of walking to and fro. Moan. What about the physical activity it instills in you?
With a tendency to see the empty half of the glass and moan about it continuously, consequently ruining the enjoyment they could otherwise have derived from the filled half, the pessimists are all for the darker sides of things!
This attitude precisely, is what swaps one parenthesis for the other. A little positive outlook, and you are the happiest on earth, while a little negative approach towards common day-to-day stuff is all that you need to wreck your happiness. Remember, every dark cloud is accompanied by a 'silver lining'. All you need to do is grab hold of it! Firmly! Good luck, 'optimising'!
