Indore, December 8: Virender Sehwag scored 219 runs to set a new record for the highest individual runs in one-day internationals as India claimed a 153-run victory over West Indies.
Sehwag scored thrilling 219 runs - seven sixes and 25 fours - in his stunning 149-ball knock as he surpassed his teammate Sachin Tendulkar's 200 not out against South Africa in February last year, the previous best total by a batsman in 50-over cricket.
Unlike Tendulkar, Sehwag never went short of time due to his magnificiant strike-rate as he reached 200 mark on 44th over.
The 33-year-old right-handed opener also went past 8,000 runs in ODI cricket during his innings as his performance led India to 418 for 5.
"I never dreamt of it. I told Gauti (Gautam Gambhir) if we showed a little patience we could get a big one. But I was never expecting a double century," he said afterwards.
A opening stand of 176 runs with opener opener Gautam Gambhir (67) followed a further 140 runs with Suresh Raina (55) as India scored 418-5.
After early loss of Powell wickets fell at regularly as West Indies were bowled out for 265. Dinesh Ramdin showed some courage as he scored 95 runs but could not make any difference.
