According to the Charities Aid Foundation's (CAF) World Giving Index, the US tops the world list as the most charitable country in 2011.
The Irish republic made it to the second place followed by Australia, New Zealand and the UK occupying the third, fourth and fifth slots respectively.
More people were likely to perform charitable acts this year than in 2010, but less likely to give money in donations. The reason behind this fall in monetary charities was "the global economic crisis" according to the CAF.
The survey suggested that countries with better economies were not likely to be more charitable. Only 5 out of World Bank's top 20 economies made it to the top 20 positions.
