Volcanoes: Disturbing forecast for 2012

Two volcanoes, one situated in the South of Iceland and another in the south off El Hierro (The Canary Islands) are presently posing much of a concern to the scientists

Katla, which is  a large volcano, with an approximate height of 1,512 meters and the diameter of the caldera (the crater) of 10 kilometers, might erupt next year, they say. The biggest threat is from the glacier which happens to be there on the slope of the volcano - Myrdalsjokull. In case Katla erupts, the glacier will melt and trigger a catastrophic flood on the entire south-eastern coast of the island.

The other valcono, an underwater one, is in activity since September 2011 and is now in its third phase of eruption.Scientists registered a giant whirlpool "above the crater of the underwater volcano", its diameter being 50 meters. The water was warmer inside than outside.
