The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice

Anne Rice is best known for The Vampire Chronicles, although in recent years her fiction has taken a different turn. Now Anne is tackling werewolves, a whole new world--modern, sleek, high-tech -- and at its center, a story as old and compelling as history: the making of a werewolf, re-imagined and reinvented as only Anne Rice, teller of mesmerizing tales, conjurer extraordinaire of other realms, could create.

The novel is about a young male reporter in San Francisco who has a good life and a good family, inexplicably attacked--bitten by a beast he cannot see in the darkness. A violent episode that sets in motion a terrifying transformation, as the young man, embracing who he is evolving into and fearing what he will become, soon experiences the thrill of the wolf gift. The story centers on how he learns to cope with becoming a Werewolf. What it truly means and how it affects his life.

The author also brought glamor and romance into the story, much as she did with her massively successful Vampire Chronicles. She says that her character becomes a “man-wolf” and is very aware of what he is doing when he has transformed, She says that there is no disconnect the next morning when he awakes so he remembers everything from the night before.
