Not every chide needs to be rebutted (especially when the reproving party is one more respectable). Sometimes it's better to simply remain silent and let the tide settle.
Of course, this doesn't mean that you need to agree with each and everything that someone else says irrespective of whether it's correct or wrong, principled or unprincipled. No, what I am saying here is that it isn't very wise to jump into arguments every now and then. Instead, some situations need to be handled more patiently and with a tad bit more insight.
This not only prevents unfruitful arguments and bad moods, but also lets the message sink in deeper (I believe!) Happy trying!
