Michael Clarke celebrates his maiden Test double-century |
Sydney, Jan 4: Captain Michael Clarke scored a double century as Australia demoralized India putting up a lead of 291 runs in the first innings on the 2nd day of the 2nd Test match on Wednesday.
Australia started the day in control continuing from 116-3 after they had dismissed Indian batting on 191, the previous day. Clarke along with Ricky Ponting extended their fourth-wicket partnership to 288 runs.
Michael clark batted the whole day scoring 251 runs and could become the first man to score a Test triple-century at the SCG. Clarke scored his runs all around the ground, with cover-drives, off-drives, clips off the pads, pulls, cuts, lofts, with a strike-rate of 73 - hitting 31 4s and a six.
Ponting (134) scored his century after almost two years (33 innings). He struck fourteen 4s before being caught at point for 134 when he drove Ishant Sharma. Mike Hussey (55 not out) carried the momenum taking Australia to 482-4 before the end of the day.
