A HIGH-TECH CRIME SPREE
CHINA'S CRACKDOWN ON HOME GROWN CYBER THIEVES

Internet crime in China is ever growing. Cyber attackers baffled the Chinese government by stealing personal details of more than 45 million Chinese people.

On Christmas day, the login names and passwords from 40 million users of a popular chat site Tianya  had been stolen. All risk being plundered by attackers as the information was held in plain text.

Soon after, CDSN, one of China's largest forums for programmers, reported that the details of all its six million users had been stolen. The attackers got away with email addresses, login names and passwords. Again, all the details were stored in plain text.

Also, the homepage image of Menginu website was replaced with a text "Do you have a conscience?".

Many activists are turning to the web to make protests more visible. Phishing attacks and Criminal hackers in China are getting out of control despite the government's far reaching measures in technology.

The protective measures against attacks can not be an enough solution because the fight never stops and often the hackers win. The Chinese economic, political and legal conditions are to be corrected.
