Japan to face a major quake soon

According to researchers, the Japanese city of Tokyo is likely to face a major quake in the next few years.

The probability of a magnitude-7 earthquake striking the city in the next four years is 75%, says the team of researchers contradicting the government's claims of a 70% chance in the next 30 years. The higher probability is due to the increased seismic activity around the city.

The last time the country was hit by an earthquake of such a big magnitude was back in 1923, killing more than a 100,000 people.

The study carried out by researchers at the University of Tokyo is based on data from Japan's Meteorological Agency.
