My friends aspire to get the best grades every semester. Why? Well, because good grades mean a good GPA of course, and… a good GPA means a better job, and… a better job means a good salary, and… a good salary means, well… a lot of things to say the least!
BAAM!!
A surprise, it is for me! Yes, the realization hit me pretty late, I must say.
You might be asking, the realization of what? Well, very frankly (you are free
to consider me a fool of an inhabitant-of-some-16th-century-old-relic-of-a-land),
the realization that all this is done for… capital!
Money
it is, my friends. It might not be a surprise to you, I know. Such naivety is
unheard of, and extremely foolish I must admit. But I feel sorry, and a little
threatened, if you must, by the overwhelming nature of these oh-so-prevalent
thoughts and attitudes.
My
inability to relate to these comes from a very different line of thinking (excuse
my lack of modesty here). I wonder what needs a person my age, my position, my
social standing would have, that can somewhat only be catered for by a very
high-salaried job. Here, do understand that this is not about supporting a
family. It’s only about the personal needs that people my age (21 it is) tend to have.
Here,
I do hope that all of us come to our senses (and those who already have theirs,
don’t lose them thanks to the dominant trends!)
Happy
Pensiving!
