Manchester United drifted three points apart from the leaders Manchester City after losing 3-0 to Newcastle United.

Newcastle dominated throughout with Demba Ba constantly finding space and scored the opener after 33 minutes, volleying the ball to the top left corner of the goal.

Yohan Cabaye scored the second goal through a spectacular free-kick just after the break. Phil Jones fouled Ba to give away the free-kick from 30 yards out, which Cabaye knocked in the top left corner of the goal.

Phil Jones was very unfortunate today, after giving away a free-kick, he scored an own goal on the 90th minute. He directed a stooping header on Tim Krul's freekick past the advancing keeper and into the empty net.

Manchester United lacked all resilience in defensive midfield and could not hit a single shot on target.
