Around 5,000 languages are currently spoken in the world.
Around 175 languages in the world are spoken by less than ten people, and nearly 500 are spoken by less than 100.
One-fourth of the world's languages are spoken by under 1,000 people.
China has more English speakers than the United States.
The European Union has 21 official languages.
