Pakistan celebrate having Ian Bell stumped |
England take up a lead of just 5 runs after dismissing Pakistan for 99 as 16 wickets had fallen on the opening day of the 3rd Test match in Dubai.
Pakistan had gone down to 6-39 after Stuart Broad (3-35) and James Anderson (4-36) made full use of a little swing and some unexpected bounce before Asad Shafiq's 45 runs helped Pakistan avoid their lowest Test score against England.
England would be looking to end the opening day in a position of authority but failed to bat well as their wickets tumbled to 104-6 at stumps.
Umar Gul claimed early two wickets before Andrew Srauss (41 not out) and Kevin Pietersen (32) took control of the situation but Pietersen fell to left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman once more before Ian Bell was out to Saeed Ajmal for the fourth series.
As in the previous matches England could not tackle the spin as Abdur Rehman trapped Morgan lbw before he clean bowled Prior.
So far there have been 35 lbws in this series, a record for a three-match series, and only six behind the record for a five-match series, held by the West Indies tour of England in 2000.
