Germany delays signing Acta

Germany has delayed signing the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (Acta) to gain time "to carry out further discussions", says German foreign ministry.

Certain measures proposed in the treaty are proving particularly controversial, especially those concerning online piracy.

Germany is the the fifth country to delay signing the treaty after Poland, the Czech republic, Slovakia and Latvia. The treaty is yet to be ratified by the European Parliament.
