FRANKLIN FURNACE — Green High School Marching Band is expected to
nearly double in size next school year, and the district is asking for
community support to purchase enough new uniforms for everyone.
There are already 45 students in the high school band, and about 30 more are expected to join next year. Band Director Adam Phillips said the program is extremely popular at Green. There are 48 sixth-grade students in the entire district, and 37 of them are in beginning band classes.
The current band uniforms are almost 20 years old, and Phillips said they’d like to order 70 new uniforms — jackets and hats only. The band has plenty of pants and plumes already. Each new uniform costs $300, for a total cost of about $21,000, with half due at the time of purchase. The money ($10,500) has to be raised by the order cut-off date, April 15, to receive them before the start of school in September.
