HOBART: Srilanka goes on the top of the tri-series table after a thrilling three-wicket victory over Australia. Chasing Australia's 280, the tourists reached the target with four balls to spare.
The highlight of Sri Lanka's win was the classy 85 off 81 balls by captain Mahela Jayawardene and a solid 80 off 100 balls by Dinesh Chandimal. The duo shared a crucial 63 runs in 12.3 overs for the third wicket to lay the foundation of their victory before Thisara Perera took the responsibility, coming out at number eight when they needed 24 off 14 balls, and played an amazing innings of 21 not out from just 11 balls to take Sri Lanka to victory, hitting a boundary and a six in the penultimate over off Daniel Christian to tilt the balance in Sri Lanka's favour.
Earlier Peter Forrest announced himself as Australia's new No.3 scoring his first ODI century. No Australian has scored more in his first four ODIs than Forrest's tally of 238.
Forrest was well supported by Clarke, 72 from 79 balls, during their 154-run stand for the third wicket after Australia lost the openers early.
