Minecraft on Xbox 360: Are we in the throws of a gaming revolution?

Minecraft, the independently developed PC game that’s picked up acclaim and followers the world over, is launching on the Xbox 360, under Microsoft’s new Xbox Arcade Next initiative. Does this console port represent a serious shift in the way the gaming industry works?

Minecraft will land on the Xbox 360 on May 9th as part of the new wave of Xbox Arcade Next titles. The open-world, free-form gaming goliath will boast fully integrated gamepad controls and a revised crafting system that makes it easier for console gamers.

Now, while this may be over simplifying things a touch,Minecraft was a home-brew project. It was built by the developer known as Notch at home, with no budget. Today Notch is sitting pretty on a pile of cash – the full, non-beta launch of Minecraft has been downloaded millions of times and is a huge, thriving community.
