New York: Most Competitive City In The World


No city in the world is better able to attract investors, capital, talent or tourists than New York. That is the conclusion of a new study by the Economist Intelligence Unit on the competitiveness of cities across the globe.


Cities compete with each other in a material sense. "They have an active role in competing nationally and globally for investment flow. They also compete with other cities for skills and talents that are globally mobile," explains urban economist Sanchez-Reaza in the report.

The study ranked 120 of the world's most important cities and established which are the most important global competitive centers in the world. The top ten are given below.

 1. New York
 2. London
 3. Singapore
 4. Paris
 5. Hong Kong
 6. Tokyo 
 7. Zurich
 8. Washington
 9. Chicago
10. Boston
