Let me fire the opening shot by restating what American Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said at the inauguration of President Obama:
"Our kids cannot wait. They get only one CHANCE AT A QUALITY EDUCATION. I want to move with a huge sense of urgency. WE ARE FOR ANYTHING AT WORKS." So to what degree the education improved is worth a moment of reflection!?

America has some of the greatest universities and the most knowledgeable and dedicated professors in the world. Prof Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Prof J.K. Galbraith, Prof Henry Kissinger, Prof Barrack Obama. To name a few. We, the world on the outside view and watch carefully what America does in Education. World education is the crises of the first magnitude. The efforts in developing world to improve, are too indecisive and half-hearted to be decisive.

Illustration: In the next 35 years Pakistan will have 3 population peaks! India? Indonesia? China? Large goals require far sighted policies. Not tactical maneuvering. And then ours, nay, the students courage must match their ambitions. And on honour and courage, please, let me first standup and applause, "TIM DeCHRISTOPHER OF UTAH UNIVERSITY!" Here is the story then!!

Bush administration decided to auction off oil and gas drilling leases on land adjacent to the country's pristine national parks. Tim, an economics student, talked his way into the Bureau of Land Mangement auction and made winning bids on 13 parcels of land, totalling 22.500 acres for a total of 1.7 million. Tim never had that kind of money and got prosecuted. But he is fine with that!!! He just waned to save the land he loved. Please give him a standing ovation.


Many decades ago this is what Dr Kissinger said : "We are, in fact, members of a community drawn by modern science, technology, and new forms of communication into a proximity for which we are still politically unprepared. Technology daily outstrips the ability of our institutions to cope with its fruits. Our political imagination must catch up with out scientific vision!" That's very true , Sir! The all consuming preoccupation of the moment is terror and security and not education. The world veers between hope and suspicion.  We all seem to be entering an uncertain and lonely future.
