Barnard CSTEP students shine at statewide competition

In the spring of 2012, Barnard students attended the 20th Annual Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Statewide Student Conference in Lake George, New York. The event attracted more than 600 students from across the state.

Faizunnahar Dewan '13, a biochemistry major, placed first in the Physical Sciences Category for her oral presentation on "Electrochemical Characterization of Diselenide Reduction" from her research and mentoring with Barnard Prof. Marisa Buzzeo '01.

Madina Toure '12 a French and political science major, received an honorable mention in the Human Services/Social Sciences category for her oral presentation titled, "Mayote: French or Cormorian."

Past winners at the annual event include: Emily Kyrillou '08, second place, Natural Science category; Meena Azizi '09, first place, Natural Science category; Camille Avestruz '09, honorable mention, Physical Science Category and Nathalie Lissain '12, honorable mention, Human Services/Social Sciences category.

As part of the Office of Academic Success and Enrichment Program (ASEP), CSTEP is an educational enrichment program designed to help historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged students from New York prepare for graduate programs and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and the licensed professions.
