Kidnapped former Super Eagles of Nigeria and Udinese midfilder Christian Obodo has been released by his abductors after being kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday the 9th of June 2012 by unknown gunmen in Efunrun, Delta state, Nigeria.

The player was released on Sunday evening by his abductors- Who initially requested a N30 million ransom- after frantic efforts by the Delta state police command. He was rescued at Enevo, a village in Isoko, Delta state. The chairman of The Sports commission and F.A chairman, Delta state, Mr Pinick Amaju when contacted, confirmed Obodo's release on Sunday.

It would be recalled that sometime in August, 2011, the father of Super Eagles of Nigeria and Chelsea of England midfielder John Mikel Obi, was abducted in Nigeria but was later released.
