For the third time in as many seasons, The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced that the Luther College coaching staff has been named the Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Luther completed the 2012 campaign with a record of 41-9, was crowned the NCAA III Pella Regional Champions and advanced to the NCAA III Championships Finals finishing the eight-team double elimination tournament tied for fifth place. In the midst of its third consecutive 40-win season, the Norse also captured a seventh Iowa Conference regular season title, the third in the past six years.
The Norse are led by head coach Renae Hartl, pitching coach Tracy Hjelle and assistant coaches Teri Olson and Erika Randall.
Hartl, who was named the Iowa Conference Coach of the Year for a second time, just completed her 11th season and has compiled a record of 330-136 for a winning percentage of .708.
