New Zealand gets a Ministry of Awesome

New Zealand’s Christchurch, which endured a devastating earthquake in February 2011, is aiming to make the area an “awesome” place to live in with the help of a new NGO called the Ministry of Awesome.
The organization was established to inspire locals to creativity and innovation and fill in the empty areas left after the quake, NZCity reports.
The Ministry was formed of volunteers led by Student Volunteer Army head Sam Johnson, who invites all residents to contribute to the restoration of their hometown.
"We've got to have these crazy elements in Christchurch, these really interesting things that are going to attract people here,” NZCity quotes Johnson as saying.
The new organization has launched a website on ministryofawesome.com for suggestions on how to make the city truly awesome.
Several dozens of people have already submitted their ideas. Among them are organizing a spa-park for kiwi birds, a special area for pétanque matches, an art and musical festival and much more.
Visitors of the site can also evaluate the ideas on the menu with grades from one to five. The Ministry of Awesome plans to bring the most popular ideas to life with the help of local officials, businessmen and volunteers.

"And when I think about what we do with the Ministry of Awesome, it's showing people that creativity exists and that's what we want to really make sure is proven in Christchurch," Johnson adds.
