Andy Warhol's print of Elizabeth II goes up for auction for charity

One of pop artist Andy Warhol’s last pieces, a colourful print of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth the Second, could raise 100,000 US dollars for charity when it goes up for auction on Wednesday in London.

The orange and green print, one of only 30 the late U.S. artist made, features his signature and is numbered, making it a highly desirable piece. The copy of the 1985 portrait is based on another painting of the Queen for her Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Queen Elizabeth features in the series by Warhol, entitled "Reigning Queens", which also feature prints of the Queens of Denmark, the Netherlands and Swaziland. Other lots include Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s soup cans, his prints of John Wayne, and prints of smoking women by British pop artist Julian Opie, who designed Blur’s album "Blur: The Best Of" which is estimated to be worth 50-thousand to 70-thousand US dollars.
