The team of two from Georgia Tech has used piezoelectric cellular actuator to replicate the human eye movement into robot, precisely. Piezoelectric process allows a camera built in a robot, to move more like a real human eye and make videos as well as pictures of some important events taking place around us.
The research is purely undertaken to improve MRI-guided surgery and robotic rehabilitation in hospitals and medical centers. Also, the work was already being presented at the IEEE International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics in Rome in June.
Joshua Schultz and Jun Ueda, two researchers, believe that their research will direct them toward achieving intuitive video feeds from robotic eyes and it will improve our understanding of complexity of human eye movement.
Already, there are numerous robots present in hospitals specialize to cure and diagnose many diseases, including da Vinci robots, which have become a priority for heart, gynecology and urology in various medical centers.
