Youth leaders to attend global summit


OVER a thousand youth leaders from across the country will gather for the Global Youth Summit on Aug. 11, at the SM North Edsa Skydome in Quezon City.

Themed “3D: Design, Develop, Deliver,” the Global Youth Summit seeks to harness the potential of the youth towards addressing issues. College students, student councils, and youth organizations are invited to design ideas, develop innovation, and ultimately deliver positive societal impact through their own fresh ideas. The best ideas produced will be featured online and awarded with prizes and grants to implement their projects.

The summit is being organized by AIESEC Philippines in partnership with SM Cares, Global Peace Festival Foundation, and Global Peace Youth Corps.

PWU holds anniversary concert series

THE Philippine Women’s University School of Music marks its 65th anniversary with a concert series on all Sundays of the month, 6 p.m., at the Philam Life Auditorium, U.N. Avenue in Manila.

The series will showcase chamber music of Vivaldi, Britten and Bloch on Aug. 12; classic guitar and popular music on Aug. 19; choral music and opera excerpts from Carmen on Aug. 26; and the Kasilag Music Concert by the alumni on Aug. 31.

PWU’s finest music artists such as Prof. Francis Amora, Philippine Music Ensemble member Myra Yvonne Bartolome, violinist and Prof. Joseph Esmilla.

Performances will not only feature classical music but will also integrate The Gongs of PWU which was organized in 2006. This group aims to promote Philippine music through the use of indigenous instruments such as gongs and bamboo.

The PWU School of Music has been producing some of the most talented music artists and performers in the country including two National Artists for Music Dr. Lucrecia Kasilag and Andrea Veneracion. The department instills not only the knowledge and discipline to the students but also the values of integrity, spirituality and an appreciation of Filipino heritage.
