China’s
biggest manufacturing company (with respect to the number of employees it owned
of about 1.2 billion) Foxconn
Technology Group, during a survey found underage interns as young as 14 working
at one of its factories.
Foxconn Technology Group
owned by Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co produces iPhones and iPads for
Apple Inc. and also assembles products for Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard
Co.
The company has admitted all
the responsibility of violating the rules and has apologized from all those
school going underage students; furthermore it added that any employee who
found to be involved in such violation would be terminated straight away.
A labor rights group in China
also took notice of such violation and stated that “although the primary
responsibility of such violation lays with the schools involved but the company
itself also responsible for not confirming the age of its employees”.
Foxconn has claimed that it
has faced a complaint from its underage interns in August that they were
compelled by their schools to work in its factories in China.
So to fix this issue and some
other issues as well The Fair Labor Association is hired by Apple to audit
working conditions at Foxconn factories whose focus is to confirm the
age of student interns.
