Nigeria, Oct 3, : At least 46 people, mostly students, were killed in a massacre on the Independace Day at a university campus in Mubi town, Adamawa State.
Gunmen invaded the hostel of Mubi Polytechnic in northern state of Adamawa, killing 46 students, police sources said. A lecturer said that the gunmen wore military attire and told the students to identify themselves by name.
According to him, some of them were spared after mentioning their names but no reason was given by the assailants for the identification process. The unidentified invaders used guns and knives in killing the students.
Although the official casualty figure in the Mubi killing was put at 25, sources said that no fewer than 26 students of the Federal Polytechnic alone were shot dead, while other victims were from the School of Health Technology and the Adamawa State University, all in Mubi.
Arrests have followed the incident and the government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mubi in the face of the mounting security challenge in the town.
