Unique chamber music concert performed by James Galway

The 15th Beijing Music Festival is now underway, and there are many exciting names appearing on this year's program list.

On Friday night, renowned Irish flute master Sir James Galway performed a unique chamber music concert in Beijing, in collaboration with Chinese classical guitarist Yang Xuefei and cellist Ma Xinhua.
A rare choice for music events, Beijing’s St Joseph’s Wangfujing Cathedral welcomed music appreciators to take part in a chamber music concert.

The star of the night was flute virtuoso Sir James Galway. He stepped on stage alongside Yang Xuefei, probably the best international classical guitarist raised in China.
The artists presented an unusual selection of beloved pieces from the Latin world, including Spain, Brazil and Argentina. The cathedral’s warm acoustics enhanced the rich textures of Galway’s golden flute, the fit-looking flute master negotiated the challenges of Manuel de Falla and Astor Piazzolla with charm and elegance.

Sir James Galway, Flautist, said, "Xuefei she is a very very good player... it’s unique, this church."
Cellist Ma Xinhua joined the stage for some bass in the second half. An unannounced surprise of Elgar’s cello piece brought an affectionate sounds cape to the cathedral.
The Beijing Music Festival will next welcome Chinese composer Tan Dun and the world premiere of his latest works.
