14-year-old Guan earns place at Masters

The winner of this weekend’s Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in Thailand is set to become the youngest golfer ever to play at the U.S. Masters. Teenage hot-shot Guan Tianlang of China earned an invitation to the 2013 Masters at Augusta after firing an even-par 71 to win the Asian amateur title by one stroke from Chinese Taipei’s Pan Chung-Tseng at the Amata Springs Country Club.

Pan shot a final-round 65 but Guan hung on to claim a memorable victory with a 15-under total of 269. When Guan tees off at Augusta in April he will beat the previous record set by Italy’s Matteo Manassero, who was 16 when he played at the major in 2010. Guan is already the youngest player to compete in a European Tour event having teed off in the China Open earlier this year.
