Murray exits Paris Masters after shock defeat

Jerzy Janowicz of Poland saved one match point on his way to a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2 upset win against third-seeded Andy Murray in the third round of the Paris Masters on Thursday.

Murray, the reigning Olympic and U.S. Open champion, served for the match at 5-4 in the second set, but totally lost his composure and the ensuing tiebreaker as the 69th-ranked Janowicz drew level.

Murray’s loss came a day after second-seeded Novak Djokovic’s second-round exit to Sam Querrey on Wednesday.

With Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal not playing in the tournament, none of the so-called ‘Big Four’ are left. Fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych reached the last eight earlier Wednesday, while fourth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain was playing later.

Janowicz had the momentum after controlling the tiebreaker and broke Murray twice in the deciding set as he raced to a 5-1 lead.

Serving for the match, the 21-year-old Janowicz saved three break points and secured the win on his second match point with a forehand winner. He then slumped to the ground and broke down in tears as he held his head in his hands.
