Mother Monster Lady Gaga has purchased 55 items, including stage costumes, which belonged to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. The weekend sale of the singer’s memorabilia, hosted by Julien’s Auctions, raised more than $5 million.
“The 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide,” Gaga wrote on Twitter.
The auction included some iconic items like Jackson's ‘BAD’ tour jacket (sold for $240,000), his white glove ($192,000) and one of the singer's Pepsi and Awards jacket ($68,000), the auction house reported.
The auction’s 465 lots included costumes and music videos spanning various periods of Jackson’s career. Part of the earnings from the sales will be donated to charity, Julien’s said.
Michael Jackson died in June 2009 in Los Angeles at the age of 50. The cause of his death was an overdose of sedatives and the anesthetic propofol.
Conrad Murray, Jackson’s physician who earlier was found guilty on charges of involuntary manslaughter in the singer’s death, has spent a year in jail. According to Murray’s lawyers, he may soon be released to do community service in lieu of serving his full four-year sentence, the Sun reported last week.
