Rebel Wilson: 'I want to be more than just an actress'

Rebel Wilson has revealed that she wants to be known for writing as well as acting.

The performer, who appears in comedies Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect, told
Metro that she already has some projects in the pipeline and is keen to find dual writing-acting roles in future.

When asked what she would like to achieve in her career, Wilson said: "I'd like to write my own material.

"I have a sitcom in development for US TV and I'm developing a movie that I'll write and star in myself. I'd like to do more writing/performing rather than just come in as an actress."

She also revealed that she did not think she would become a professional actress when she was at school, but a life-threatening bout of malaria made her take the leap and enrol in acting school.

"I was very studious and was selected to be a youth ambassador for Australia for a year after high school and went to South Africa, giving speeches about Australia," she said.

"I got malaria and almost died. When I was in the hospital the drugs made me lose my hearing and I started hallucinating for two weeks. All I can remember is this hallucination where I was an actress winning an Oscar at the Academy Awards and, instead of doing an acceptance speech, I did an acceptance rap."

Wilson added: "Everyone thought I was nuts. I'd already got into law school and would have become a lawyer but I followed my gut instinct."
