Rosario Dawson, Kate Walsh drop Instagram over new privacy policy

Rosario Dawson, Kate Walsh, Jordin Sparks and a number of other celebrities have announced plans to delete their  Instagram accounts over its controversial new privacy policy.

The photo-sharing social media platform announced plans this week to sell content on the website without compensating or getting the permission of Instagram users.

According to Instagram's Terms of Use, users who sign up on the site "agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you".

Thousands of users have expressed anger with the new policy, including several celebrities.

Private Practice star Walsh
said on her Twitter account today: "No more Instagram."

Singer and actress Sparks
wrote: "YIKES! Bye instagram," while Rosario Dawson admitted: "Gonna make sure my photos on Instagram are backed up & then switch."

Actress Tiffani Thiessen also voiced her opinion, tweeting from her own account: "Really sad to have to end my luv 4 @instagram. Will be deleting my account due 2 their ridiculous new terms."

Dancing with the Stars' Cheryl Burke
posted: "Can't believe Instagrams new policy! They r allowed 2 use ALL of ur images in advertising. Will be erasing my account shortly," which was later retweeted by Jenny McCarthy.

The terms of the new Instagram policy go into effect on January 16.
